Quobna Ottobah Cugoano

Quobna Ottobah Cugoano was a prominent African abolitionist and writer in the late 18th century. Born around 1757 in what is now Ghana, he was kidnapped and sold into slavery as a young boy. He was eventually transported to the Caribbean and later brought to England, where he gained his freedom.

Christopher Wren

The son of a prominent priest, and almost certainly intended for the Anglican ministry himself, Christopher Wren grew up within the Church. In his long and distinguished career, he built many places of worship – including St James’s Piccadilly, which he argued should serve as a model for other churches.
