We are committed to being a church in which people flourish.
Safeguarding at St James’s is about proactively and collaboratively building a church in which everyone is invited to belong and to flourish. We strive to reduce or remove risks to people’s safety, and to provide a supportive and open-hearted space for every person. This includes policies and protocols on how we engage and support people within and beyond the congregation.
We do our best to be accountable and supportive together as a parish church, through recruitment and staff management policies and procedures that minimise risk, as well as specialised training and conversations with volunteer groups and projects, and the congregation as a whole, so that safeguarding is integrated within St James’s.
Our safeguarding ethos and practices reflect our commitment to prioritising the needs and safety of every person who may be at risk of harm. We believe that we all have a responsibility and moral duty to act when we have concerns, and we all have the right for our concerns to be heard. Safeguarding concerns are addressed using clear policy and procedures, some of which relate to legal obligations for those responding to and managing concerns.
If you would like to learn more about safeguarding at St James’s, our Parish Safeguarding Officer is Charley Matthews. Our Children’s Champion is Frith Taylor. If you have any concerns, please email safeguarding@sjp.org.uk.
