We offer daily services and a creative programme of talks, events and concerts. We seek to be a welcoming space for people to reflect, create and debate.
Come and celebrate the hope and light that Christmas brings each winter
St James’s hosts inclusive services and a cultural programme. We seek to be a welcoming space for people to reflect, create and debate.
St James’s is a place to explore, reflect, pray, and support all who are in need. We are a Church of England parish in the Anglican Communion. This is a place for everyone who’s wondering about life’s big questions and striving for a better world.
We host a year-round creative programme encompassing music, visual art and spoken word, drawing on St James’s rich cultural history including artists, writers and musicians Mary Beale, Mary Delany, William Blake, Ottobah Cugoano and Leopold Stokowski.
We try to put our faith into action by educating ourselves and speaking out on issues of injustice, especially concerning refugees, asylum, earth and racial justice, and LGBTQ+ issues.
We aspire to be a home where everyone can belong. We’re known locally and globally for our unique history and beauty, as well as faith in action, creativity and the arts, and a commitment to social and environmental justice.
We strive to be a Eucharist-centred, diverse and inclusive Christian community promoting life in abundance, wellbeing and dignity for all.
St James’s Piccadilly has been at the heart of its community since 1684. We invite you to play your part in securing this historic place for generations to come.
It costs us £3,500 per day to enable us to keep our doors open to all who need us
Your donation will help us restore our garden in Piccadilly as part of The Wren Project, making it possible for us to welcome over 300,000 people from all faiths and walks of life seeking tranquillity and inspiration each year.

Join our sociable and supportive community of volunteers and be surrounded by incredible architecture, history, music, art & ideas in the heart of St James’s.
St James’s depends on the generosity and dedication of our wonderful volunteers who carry out many roles across St James’s projects. We welcome volunteers from any age group, background, of all faiths and none, and we offer a wide range of opportunities for involvement with the following initiatives:
Social Justice Projects
Through our food outreach projects of FEAST and Sunday Breakfast we express care and solidarity for people experiencing homelessness and living on low incomes through providing hot meals and hospitality. We also provide warm clothing and other essentials through our Wardrobe project which sits alongside Sunday Breakfast.
Our International Group supports refugees and people going through the asylum-seeking process and there are a number of upcoming opportunities to support this community and be involved with activism. Please watch this space over the coming weeks.
We are currently recruiting volunteers for FEAST and Sunday Breakfast (starting again in January 2025) and Wardrobe at St James’s. We will soon have opportunities to volunteer with our International Group. For more information about these opportunities, please email Joanna Kelly at outreachmanager@sjp.org.uk.
Earth Justice Projects
St James’s strives to advocate for earth justice and to develop deeper connections with nature. Rooted in loving the world and all its inhabitants (human and other-than-human), the community seeks to act from a place of environmental interconnectedness in services, events, and activism.
For information about participating in a variety of activities please email Joanna Kelly at outreachmanager@sjp.org.uk
Congregational Volunteering
There are many opportunities to be involved within the congregation including the following: door welcoming at services, concerts, and seasonal (especially Christmas!) events; serving teas and coffees; being an intercessor or reader at services; being a server at the weekly Sunday Eucharist and other services; and being a week-day welcomer. Volunteers will enjoy meeting a diverse group of visitors and worshippers who come to St James’s across the year. There are opportunities for both one off and regular volunteering. If you are interested in any of these roles, please email Joanna Kelly at outreachmanager@sjp.org.uk to be put in touch with the relevant volunteer lead.
As a volunteer at St James’s you will make new friends, create community, and support the work of love and justice in this city and the wider world. Your involvement in any of our projects forms a deeply valued contribution to realising the St James’s vision of a just society and a creative open-hearted church to which all are invited, and where everyone can belong. We very much look forward to hearing from you!
