St James’s hosts inclusive services and a cultural programme. We seek to be a welcoming space for people to reflect, create and debate.
St James’s is a place to explore, reflect, pray, and support all who are in need. We are a Church of England parish in the Anglican Communion.
We host a year-round creative programme encompassing music, visual art and spoken word.
We offer hospitality to people going through homelessness and speak out on issues of injustice, especially concerning refugees, asylum, racial justice, and LGBTQ+ issues.
St James’s strives to advocate for earth justice and to develop deeper connections with nature.
We aim to be a place where you can belong. We have a unique history, and the beauty of our building is widely known. Our community commits to faith in action: social and environmental justice; creativity. and the arts
We strive to be a Eucharist-centred, diverse and inclusive Christian community promoting life in abundance, wellbeing and dignity for all.
St James’s Piccadilly has been at the heart of its community since 1684. We invite you to play your part in securing this historic place for generations to come.
It costs £5,000 each day to keep the doors of St James’s open to all who already need us.
A reimagined St James’s realised. A redesigned garden, courtyard and new building capacity—all fully accessible— will provide beautiful spaces for all as well as improving our environmental performance.
Whether shooting a blockbuster TV series or creating a unique corporate event, every hire at St James’s helps our works within the community.

Joke Amusan’s powerful altarpiece and altar covering for Lent express a story of sacred love, prayer and hope in God’s steadfast presence.
‘Above All, Love’, 2026
Hessian, yarn
‘Stand Firm, Let Nothing Move You’, 2026
Hessian, yarn, African fabrics
Weaving together Christ’s ultimate act of love and call to steadfastness, these artworks invite us to reflect on faith as something lived, embodied, and shared. Beginning with love (God’s greatest commandment) as the binding force of the community, the suspended tapestry establishes the foundation.
The altar cloth responds with a call to endurance: Stand Firm, Let Nothing Move You. Mountains rise beneath the text, evoking strength and testimony, while African fabrics flow from them, carrying ancestral stories into the heart of the church. Spilling onto the floor, the fabrics speak of rootedness. The words are stitched boldly into hessian as both invitation and instruction.
Joke Amusan is a German-Nigerian artist based in London. Her art practice illuminates the rich and multifaceted experiences of Black womanhood. Through her exploration of identity, heritage, and migration, she creates immersive installations and evocative sculptures that engage multiple senses. Challenging preconceived notions and perceptions. Her art serves as a conversational bridge: inspiring women to come together, share their stories, and unapologetically embrace their authentic selves.
Joke’s work has been exhibited across the UK, USA, and Europe in renowned galleries such as Tate Modern, The ICA, and The African Diaspora Art Museum of Atlanta. In recognition of her practice, she received the Thameslink Art Award in 2025, was a finalist in The Ingram Prize in 2023, and was nominated for the “Female Founder” award in The Independent Awards in 2022. She strives to help build community by bringing people together and sharing space together through her creative workshops. To create a safe place where we uplift and empower each other. Where stories can be shared and creative juices can freely flow. Joke studied Art & English Literature at The University of Reading with a term in Zürich, Switzerland at F+F Schüle für Kunst und Design.
