St James’s hosts inclusive services and a cultural programme. We seek to be a welcoming space for people to reflect, create and debate.
St James’s is a place to explore, reflect, pray, and support all who are in need. We are a Church of England parish in the Anglican Communion.
We host a year-round creative programme encompassing music, visual art and spoken word.
We offer hospitality to people going through homelessness and speak out on issues of injustice, especially concerning refugees, asylum, racial justice, and LGBTQ+ issues.
St James’s strives to advocate for earth justice and to develop deeper connections with nature.
We aspire to be a home where everyone can belong. We’re known locally and globally for our unique history and beauty, as well as faith in action, creativity and the arts, and a commitment to social and environmental justice.
We strive to be a Eucharist-centred, diverse and inclusive Christian community promoting life in abundance, wellbeing and dignity for all.
St James’s Piccadilly has been at the heart of its community since 1684. We invite you to play your part in securing this historic place for generations to come.
The work of St James’s, it costs us £5,000 per day to enable us to keep our doors open to all who need us.
A reimagined St James’s realised. A redesigned garden, courtyard and new building capacity—all fully accessible— will provide beautiful spaces for all as well as improving our environmental performance.
Whether shooting a blockbuster TV series or creating a unique corporate event, every hire at St James’s helps our works within the community.

Filming at St James’s brings added social value
By filming at St James’s you not only contribute to an important heritage site in the heart of London, but also support St James’s works in the community, whether the Creative Programme or our Social Justice projects.
A unique location
Designed by Christopher Wren, St James’s Church was consecrated in 1684. With its atmospheric courtyard, understated brick exterior, unique interior and peaceful garden, St James’s offers a singular and versatile setting perfect for period dramas, contemporary stories and everything in between.
Inside, clear glass windows flood the space with dappled light. There are wooden galleries on three sides, a spectacular vaulted ceiling and a magnificent organ case and reredos, both the work of master artist Grinling Gibbons. Outside there is a spacious stone courtyard and a beautiful fountain leading to the award-winning Southwood Garden that offers a peaceful green space.
The church has been the location for a variety of productions, from Netflix drama ‘Bridgerton’ to ‘Jamie and Jimmy’s Friday Night Feast’.
Adjunct activities
In addition to acting as a film location, St James’s has been used for a variety of other film-related activities. Its church hall and other spaces are regularly used for casting (BAFTA is a neighbour). For example, we are a regular casting venue for the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise.
We have also been used for hair and make-up, wardrobe or facilities for extras, whether for on-site filming, or in the surrounding area. The courtyard is well suited to on-location catering facilities. Productions have made use this possibility both when the church and its grounds have been a filming location, but also for productions being filmed on Piccadilly, Jermyn Street or other nearby West End locations within in easy reach of St James’s.
