Music Scholarship Programme 2026-27

Singing Scholars: 4 scholarships each worth £3000 pa, Instrumental Scholars: 2 scholarships each worth £1500 pa

St James’s Church is offering places for 4 singing scholars (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) and 2 instrumental scholars for the academic year October 2026-July 2027. These scholarships may be of particular interest to students.

Singing Scholars: 4 scholarships each worth £3000 pa

We require 1 Soprano, 1 Alto, 1 Tenor, 1 Bass.
Candidates should show ease and competence in singing traditional liturgical choral music and leading the singing of hymns and psalms.
Should be good sight-readers and be able to hold a vocal line alone.
Commitment will include rehearsing for and singing at services throughout the year with opportunities for singing solos and concerts.

Instrumental Scholars: 2 scholarships each worth £1500 pa

All instruments will be considered, including organ. For one Scholarship preference will be given to a player of a wind or brass instrument.
Candidates should be open to and experienced in playing a wide range of music.
Should be good sight-readers.
Commitment will include rehearsing for and playing at one Sunday service per month and festival services throughout the year with opportunities for playing solos and concerts.

Candidates do not have to identify as Christian or belong to a religious faith, however we are looking for candidates who connect with St James’s ethos and values.

At some point in 2027 to facilitate The Wren Project (refer www.sjp.org.uk/wren-project/) St James’s services will move to St Pancras Church, Euston Road.

Closing date for applications 2pm, Wednesday 15th July 2026 with auditions being held in person at St James’s Church, between Tuesday 21st July and Saturday 25th July 2026.
