A reimagined St James’s realised. A redesigned garden, courtyard and new building capacity—all fully accessible— will provide beautiful spaces for all as well as improving our environmental performance.

Canopy welcomes you for a range of free activities taking place in the church, courtyard and garden.
NB: Additional outdoor activities—conversational, musical or otherwise—will be added as confirmed. Please check back for updates.
Canopy’s outdoor activities include:
• a Tree of Future Hopes — write a hope, prayer or wish on a leaf shape and attach it to the ribbons hanging from the tree. Perhaps it will spark a conversation
• a Microplants Walk — discover the usually overlooked flora of central London followed by contemplative conversation, with Deborah Colvin — starts at 10am and 12:15pm
• Conversation Benches — have a conversation under a tree with a friend or complete stranger while carefully guided by a facilitator — at regular intervals over the day
• an area for self-facilitated art or writing in the garden with cushions and blankets. Lie down, look up at the trees and let the creativity flow — 10am – 3pm
• Quiz the Clergy — a gathering session facilitated by Young St James’s group — 11am and 2pm
• a self-guided Conversations Under Trees trail — follow the trail for a conversation with yourself or others — 10am – 3pm
There will also be activities inside the church, from 11am – 2pm.
• at 11am, Author Paul Wood’s talk London is a Forest reveals London’s tree history and offers insights into their future. You can find more information on this talk and book free tickets here.
• Associate Rector Ayla Lepine will lead Silence Speaks in the church that features portraits by Black British women artists including Claudette Johnson and Barbara Walker, exploring images of women as places of contemplation and connection. 1:30 – 2pm.
In the quiet atmosphere of the church, there will be opportunities to light candles and reflect. Everyone is warmly welcome.
Soft drinks, delicious falafel and vegan Ethiopian food will be on sale from two of our community street food vendors. Outdoor tables and benches are available in the courtyard if you prefer to sit down to eat.
