Dance of the Cello – a solo cello recital featuring Bach’s Suite No 3 in C major and Cassado’s Suite for Cello. Come and explore how different composers have used the sonorities of the cello to evoke different dance styles.

    Artist Bio

    Madeleine Ridd began playing the cello when she was four, achieving Grade 8 Distinction at thirteen. She studied at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, and as a teenager her quartet was selected for a masterclass with Mstislav Rostropovich. Madeleine studied Music at Merton College Oxford, and achieved a First Class degree in Music. She won the University’s annual Concerto Competition, and performed the Elgar Cello Concerto in Oxford’s Sheldonian Theatre, and at the Musikverein in Vienna. Madeleine then completed a Postgraduate Diploma at the Royal Academy of Music, where she studied with Mats Lidström. She works as a freelance teacher and cellist in London, and plays with the Philharmonia, ENO and London Concert Orchestra.
