    Programme

This programme for solo piano weaves together music inspired by the elegance and clarity of the Baroque era, reimagined through Romantic and 20th-century musical language. Romantic transcriptions and Ravel’s homage to the French Baroque style create a dialogue between past and present.

    Artist bio

Born in Tashkent, Nafis Umerkulova began playing the piano at the age of five, inspired by her mother, who was also a pianist.

In 2004, she was awarded scholarships to continue her musical education in the UK, studying at the Purcell School for Young Musicians, followed by the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Nafis has performed extensively across the UK as a soloist, concerto soloist, and chamber musician. Her appearances include leading venues such as Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room, St Martin-in-the-Fields, St John’s Smith Square, Glasgow City Halls, Manchester Bridgewater Hall, and the Birmingham Symphony and Town Halls.

In 2019, she released her debut album, Darkness Illuminated, featuring works by Alexander Scriabin and Alexei Stanchinsky. Alongside her performing career, Nafis is deeply committed to education and regularly shares her experience with the next generation of musicians. She is currently a member of the piano faculty at the Purcell School for Young Musicians.
