It costs £5,000 each day to keep the doors of St James’s open to all who already need us.
A reimagined St James’s realised. A redesigned garden, courtyard and new building capacity—all fully accessible— will provide beautiful spaces for all as well as improving our environmental performance.

These 45 minute concerts are designed to be even more accessible to all. Don’t worry if your kids are prone to sing along and no need to think you need to sit bolt upright throughout when trying out this new live music experience — you’re free to wander in and out as the mood takes you.

Programme
Music for Two Cellos – a musical journey through some of the best-loved duets for cellos, featuring music by Vivaldi, Mozart and Minsky. This will be a relaxed performance designed for children and their parents, with opportunities to get involved, as Debs and Maddy have fun making music together.
St James’s is grateful for the generous support of Rolex for this music programme.
Artist Bio
Madeleine Ridd began playing the cello when she was four, achieving Grade 8 Distinction at thirteen. She studied at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, and as a teenager her quartet was selected for a masterclass with Mstislav Rostropovich. Madeleine studied Music at Merton College Oxford, and achieved a First Class degree in Music. She won the University’s annual Concerto Competition, and performed the Elgar Cello Concerto in Oxford’s Sheldonian Theatre, and at the Musikverein in Vienna. Madeleine then completed a Postgraduate Diploma at the Royal Academy of Music, where she studied with Mats Lidström. She works as a freelance teacher and cellist in London, and plays with the Philharmonia, ENO and London Concert Orchestra.
Deborah Chandler is a busy freelancer based in East London. She performs regularly with several orchestras including BBC Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Birmingham Royal Ballet and Opera North and is in demand as guest principal for freelance orchestras such as The Brandenburg Ensemble and Alina Orchestra. She has recorded and performed live for musical legends such as Hanz Zimmer, Quincy Jones, Kylie Minogue and Diana Ross and has played live on Radio 2 and 3. She takes great delight in teaching and has 2 young children. Deborah studied at the Royal Northern College of music with Emma Ferrand and plays on a William Forster cello made in 1777.
