    Artist Bio

The Flarra Duo is a partnership of flautist Penny Cairney-Leeming and harpist/composer Hannah Runting, described as ‘uncannily luminous’ and ‘bold and fearless’ respectively. Together, they have performed at Regent Hall, various venues within the Royal Academy of Music, and most recently, St Marylebone Parish Church in partnership with Wigmore Hall for their ‘Music for the Moment’ series.

This featured a program of new and well-loved works for an audience of people living with dementia and their carers. Through their work together, Flarra Duo forges connections with audiences, devising innovative performances and pushing the boundaries of compositional and performance practices.
Penny’s soloist debut saw her perform the Mozart Flute and Harp concerto at the Barbican, and her chamber music partnerships with award-winning Zephyr Flutes and the Notus Trio (flute, viola, harp) are testament to her experience and passion for working collaboratively. Penny is also an advocate for contemporary music, premiering multiple new works, and recently performing in the Royal Academy of Music’s Boulez Anniversary concert.

Hannah, a current scholar of the Riot Ensemble ‘Arts Mentor Lucerne’ scheme, is equally passionate about contemporary music. She recently premiered Shin Kim’s concerto ‘Dream Poem’ on BBC Radio 3, performed Boulez’s ‘Sur Incises’ with the Manson Ensemble, and the UK premiere of Rolf Hind’s critically acclaimed opera, ‘Sky in a Small Cage’. She is also the harpist for Paraorchestra, a disability championing organisation that has seen her perform at the BBC Proms, Dublin National Concert Hall and the Southbank Centre.
As a composer, her projects have achieved multiple sold out performances, and her works often feature in Flarra Duo programming.
