We host a year-round creative programme encompassing music, visual art and spoken word.
We offer hospitality to people going through homelessness and speak out on issues of injustice, especially concerning refugees, asylum, racial justice, and LGBTQ+ issues.
St James’s strives to advocate for earth justice and to develop deeper connections with nature.
We aim to be a place where you can belong. We have a unique history, and the beauty of our building is widely known. Our community commits to faith in action: social and environmental justice; creativity. and the arts
We strive to be a Eucharist-centred, diverse and inclusive Christian community promoting life in abundance, wellbeing and dignity for all.
St James’s Piccadilly has been at the heart of its community since 1684. We invite you to play your part in securing this historic place for generations to come.
It costs £5,000 each day to keep the doors of St James’s open to all who already need us.
A reimagined St James’s realised. A redesigned garden, courtyard and new building capacity—all fully accessible— will provide beautiful spaces for all as well as improving our environmental performance.
Whether shooting a blockbuster TV series or creating a unique corporate event, every hire at St James’s helps our works within the community.

Third Friday of the month, 8-9pm on zoom
A regular online time and space for prayer, readings, and silence offered throughout the year.
These sessions are from 8pm – 9pm British time to allow friends in other parts of the world to more easily join us. Everyone is welcome to attend for all or part of the hour.
Each session is planned and facilitated by a member of the St James’s community and follows the same broad format:
Welcome and an invitation to participate in whatever way suits you A short stilling practice A reading from Scripture followed by 20 minutes of silence A second reading (usually a poem or quotation) followed by another 20 minutes of silence A time to share any reflections A closing prayer
What is Christian contemplative practice?
The Christian contemplative tradition is deep rooted and richly resourced. We are inspired by the 3rd and 4th century desert fathers and mothers, medieval mystical tradition, Celtic spirituality, and many of today’s expressions of Christian meditation.
Why do this?
The world is often noisy, confusing and uncertain. Much worship and prayer is also full of words and sound. We set aside this space to deepen spiritual growth or forge a deeper connection with God through silence.
Today’s forms of contemplation
There are many ways to participate in this tradition, whether it is called Christian meditation, silent prayer, the prayer of the heart or something else.
What we offer
We are not experts. We simply aim to hold a space to explore silent prayer in communion with others.
