Season of Creation: Dee’s eco-tip of the week – A really simple mix of salts makes a really fine washing powder. Why would you want to carry all that extra liquid home from the supermarket when you can make this at home?
Ingredients (250 grams = one cup)
1.5 cups washing soda
1.5 cups bicarbonate/baking soda
0.5 cups Epsom salts
57 grams fine sea salt
Add all the ingredients together and give it a stir. Then give it another stir or shake.
Use 1 tablespoon max for washing (I started using more but there’s no need).
Use distilled white vinegar as fabric softener.
This isn’t a big batch. You may find it will harden or soften on storage depending on weather conditions but just shake or stir and it will be fine.
I add one or 2 drops of essential oil when I put it in the washing machine drawer to give a lovely smell.
