Artist Bio
Ruijun Peng is a young pianist currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Piano Performance at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London. She completed her undergraduate studies in the Piano Department at Xi’an Conservatory of Music, where she became the first student in the institution’s history to be awarded the China Scholarship Council National Special Talent Training Program in the Arts, representing the highest level of state-sponsored artistic cultivation at her conservatory.
As a pianist, Ruijun has distinguished herself in numerous major national and international competitions from an early age. Her awards include the Gold Prize at the Shanghai International Youth Piano Competition and the Gold Prize at the World Master Open Music Competition, as well as top prizes at the Xinghai Cup, Huanglong Music Festival Piano Competition, and the Liszt International Piano Competition, among others. Her playing is noted for its refined tonal control and strong sense of dramatic expression, with particular sensitivity to balancing structural clarity and musical narrative.
Alongside her performance career, Ruijun is also active in piano composition and artistic research. Her works include the piano suite Spark Can Start a Prairie Fire, the piano miniature Fairy Village, and the art song Love. Her creative practice explores the relationship between embodied pianistic gesture and musical expression, reflecting an integrated artistic identity that bridges performance and composition.
While maintaining a strong focus on classical piano performance, Ruijun is also engaged in film, theatre, and cross-media music creation as a composer. Her scoring work spans film, stage, and fashion media: the VR film Shallow Dream received awards at the New York International Film Awards and Oniros Film Awards; the London stage production The Mask Policy received a four-star critical review; and the fashion film Numen Machina (2025) was selected as a Fashion Film Library Staff Pick. These cross-disciplinary experiences have further deepened her understanding of musical storytelling and sonic structure, enriching her interpretative approach at the piano.
Ruijun Peng’s artistic development is rooted in rigorous classical piano training while continually expanding into contemporary modes of musical expression, presenting the profile of a new-generation pianist who combines strong tradition with cross-disciplinary creativity.
