    Artist Biography

Born in 2008, Richard is a 17 year old pianist from Hong Kong currently studying at the International Piano Academy at the Rossall School in England under the guidance of Victor Lim. Richard started playing the piano at the age of 4, but it was when he watched Yunchan Lim’s performance of Liszt’s 12 Transcendental Etudes at the 2022 Van Cliburn Competition that inspired him to pursue his dream to be a concert pianist. He has won prizes in numerous competitions across Hong Kong, China, and the UK, including first prizes at the 2024 International Musician of the Year Competition in Shenzhen, Lytham Performing Arts Festival and the 2025 Beethoven Piano Society of Europe Intercollegiate Junior Competition. Richard has performed around the UK in places such as Forsyth Music Shop and Manchester Cathedral. In 2024, he gave the world premiere of Dame Judith Weir’s Simple Sonata No.3. He has also participated in masterclasses with world-renowned pianists such as Kathryn Stott, Martin Roscoe and Graham Scott.

Outside music, Richard’s favourite subject in school is Politics and he enjoys playing video games in his spare time. Richard is currently preparing to apply for conservatories in the UK and hopes to become a concert pianist and music educator in the future.
