Key songs linked narrated story from the coming Anglo-Ghanaian musical Gloria, exploring migration, identity, and love.
Experience the essentials of a major new stage show, Gloria The Musical, in an exclusive, industry showcase.
This 60-minute narrated performance features 10 key songs that showcase the emotional and musical depth of this bold, Anglo-Ghanaian production. The performance will be guided by the voice of Clare Perkins, the renowned actor of UK stage and television. Gloria tells the epic story of a young Ghanaian singer who dreams her way to England, exploring contemporary British identity, migration, and the legacies of history through an honest and joyful lens.
Expectation: A Unique Sonic Tapestry The music is the engine of the show, delivering a blend that is truly unique. The score is sung-through and expertly fuses a polished West End sound with the vibrant energy and rhythmic heart of contemporary Afrobeats. This blend reflects the show’s core themes of cultural and personal integration.
Audience members will experience this rich tapestry firsthand, with numbers spanning a diverse range of genres, including: *Afropop: Hear the welcoming anthem Akwaaba! (“Welcome” in Twi), which is sung partially in Twi and English. *Pop-Ska and Soul: Enjoy the driving rhythm of songs like “Cool To Be You”, a feelgood number about love across borders. *Soaring Ballads: Experience the show’s emotional peaks, including the musical pop power ballad “Supahero”, and Gloria’s resilient declaration I Trust In Me – a new anthem for our new England *Rhythm and Blues/Soul: Feel the historical gravitas of abolitionist history with “Back for Good” sung in the show by a key character Ottobah Cugoano – baptised in St James in 1773 – a special resonance with the venue.
This ambitious musical approach is overseen by leading London music director Richard Ampadu.
The Performance and Talent The evening will feature world-class talent. Merryl Ansah, currently playing Nala in the West End’s The Lion King, stars as Gloria. She is joined by rising star Ben Culleton (recently in Mary Poppins) as George. We also feature three exceptional vocalists, experienced on the London live scene and beyond : Anna Incontro, Dan Tetteh, and Kehinde Olukayode.
They will be backed by a full professional live band, including Thomas Owusu-Mfum on drums and Joseph Appiah on saxophone.
Attendees will also witness the acclaimed Ghanaian playwright and Co-Contributor Chief Moomen, who will make a special live appearance.
This is a crucial step in the journey to establish Gloria as a long-running commercial success in the West End. Join us in celebrating a story of cultural repair and the hopeful future of belonging.
