As part of the ‘Voice and Community’ and ‘Faith, Earth, and Social Justice’ programmes of St James’s three-year strategy, please gather during Black History Month, after the service to discuss together the impact and meaning of the Cugoano anniversary for those who worship here.

The anniversary itself, 20 August 2023, was marked with prayer, and his name is written into the walls of this place for the next 250 years or more.

Now that the commissioned artwork by Che Lovelace is here (including Spirit pictured), and other artists, musicians, actors and activists have come to offer reflections and challenges, what questions and reflections arise for St James’s worshipping community from his story and presence in this church? Come and discuss ‘what next’?
