Our courtyard is an established venue for delicious street food, outdoor music, and cultural events

courtyard event

The courtyard is available for hire for both public-facing and private events. It is already used for music performances and cultural events. It is suited to concerts or cultural events, corporate and private events, and filming and related activities.

The courtyard at St James’s is located on the Piccadilly side of our historic church site. It has 450 square meters of usable space (25m x 18m) with a maximum capacity of 400 people. It sits adjacent to our Green Flag award-winning Southwood Garden, which has capacity for another 150 people.

Access to the courtyard is through the main entrance gates from Piccadilly. There is a gently sloping disabled access ramp and the courtyard itself slopes gently from Piccadilly towards the church. It is paved in stone, including memorial ledger stones. Unfortunately, there is currently no step-free access to the Southwood Garden.

The courtyard is visible through the railings and gates from street level and to travellers on passing public transport. This is useful for concerts or events that might benefit from the high footfall on Piccadilly. Conversely, it is enclosed by robust walls and an elegant tall fence, making it easy to control access when using it for private events.

As home to our regular StreetFoodish market, our staff are very experienced at supporting those installing and deinstalling outdoor cooking facilities. They have also worked efficiently with clients’ contractors requiring marquees or elaborate temporary structures to be erected for private events.
