A team of community support volunteers empowering people to establish connections and thrive in a new home and community.
Who We Are
SJP Home for Good is delivered in partnership with The Passage Charity. Claire Wright and Julia Chalkley are the joint SJP volunteer coordinators on this project.
What We Do
Trained volunteers form community support partnerships with people for up to 1 year (meeting for about 1 hour a week, or 2 hours every fortnight).
Getting Involved
Contact Claire and Julia to register your interest for our next training session in Spring 2022.
When a person who’s experienced homelessness moves into accommodation, they face the new challenge of being a tenant in a local community.
People can struggle with this transition and it’s not unusual for people to end up back on the streets.
For the past 7 years, The Passage has run a scheme called ‘Home For Good’ in which volunteers develop a 1-to-1 relationship with people recently moved into their own accommodation, and help them establish themselves and connect to their local community.
In collaboration with The Passage, St James’s has set up our own team of community support volunteers who (with training and supervision) support individuals for up to 1 year (meeting for about 1 hour a week, or 2 hours every fortnight).
This project is funded by our Solidarity Fund.
In 2022 we launched our new café, a social enterprise, with Redemption Roasters, working with individuals who were formerly incarcerated to build new lives through education and employment in the speciality coffee business.
