On Sunday 4 February 2018 we held our first gathering to knit teddy bears for young refugee children arriving in the UK. We had no idea what the response would be, but it’s certainly captured the imagination of knitters of all abilities. Our collection of teddies (we decided the best collective noun is a ‘hug’) now numbers 43, each one with its own unique appeal, and new bears continue to arrive. (The record is 13 in one day!) A huge thank you to all of our knitters. Watch this space for details of the next Big Kniturgy. And if you’d like to join in, then feel free to download the pattern. There’s no closing date for receiving bears, and each knitted companion will be blessed and then passed on to our friends at the British Red Cross International Family Tracing Service, to be given – in person - to a young child arriving in the UK.
