The Key: Harmony ● Peace ● Hope
The Key is a major East-West peace-building travelling art exhibition that uses the globally recognised Ancient Egyptian symbol of the Ankh as the canvas for a contemporary message of hope for a harmonious, peaceful and tolerant world. Showcasing the work of 40 Egyptian, Middle Eastern and Western contemporary visual artists, The Key focuses on a modern three-dimensional fibreglass portrayal (1.2 metres in height) of the Ancient ‘Key of Life’, the Ankh, the Egyptian hieroglyphic character seen as the oldest known symbol of pluralism, tolerance and harmony.
The Key is curated by Caravan, an interfaith arts organisation based in the USA. It opened in Cairo in March 2016 and will visit St James’s Church from 16th June-15th August before moving on to New York. Opening times: Monday-Saturday 10.00am-12.45pm & 2.15pm-5.00pm; Sunday 1.00pm-3.00pm
