This year our Lent programme is based on the BBC1 series Broken
Written by Jimmy McGovern, starring Sean Bean and set in an estate parish in the North East, the series focuses on the life and work Father Michael Kerrigan, a priest who, despite past trauma and anxiety about his own inadequacies, attempts to bring the light of Christ into the lives of the people amongst whom he ministers. (NB. The series features explicit language and a number of disturbing story-lines (death, suicide, abuse and violence). See trailer, below.
The Lent programme
On each Sunday morning in Lent at 9.30am one of the six one-hour episodes of Broken will be screened in the Church Hall (dates below). At the end of each screening, we shall be given a series of questions to take away and reflect upon. There will then be a Sunday afternoon meeting at 2pm to discuss some of the themes raised in each episode. All welcome. Synopses of each episode will be available for those who weren’t able to attend the morning screening. The afternoon sessions will be held in the Church on 18 February, 4, 11 and 18 March and in one of our basement rooms on 25 Feb and 25 March. (We very much regret that there is no wheelchair access for the basement rooms).
