Nativity carvings
These figures were commissioned by St James's Church in 2012 using wood from a Catalpa tree that had stood in our courtyard for over 80 years. Artist and wood carver Clinton Chaloner stunned us with the results which are earthy, tactile and insistent. We are really grateful to him. And especially to the Catalpa tree.
They are displayed and used as part of our liturgies each year from Advent Sunday and through Advent, Christmas and Epiphany until the liturgical focus moves from Christmas to Easter, which happens at Candlemas.
